Curriculum: History
History is an important part of the curriculum at St. Ambrose Preparatory School. It stimulates the children’s interest and understanding about the life of people who lived in the past. Children learn to investigate and consider people and past events and how these have influenced our lives today. Pupils develop an understanding of significant historical events, a sense of chronology and an enjoyment of the subject.
In Key Stage 1 pupils are given the opportunity to explore and compare past and present through familiar topics such as homes, toys, holidays and people of the Victorian era.
In Key Stage 2 topics include the Romans, Anglosaxons, Vikings, Tudors, Egyptians and Children in World War II.
At all stages children are able to enhance their learning and enjoyment through Art, Design and Technology, I.C.T., role-play, trips and museum visits which all contribute to an appreciation and love of history.
Prep. 3 History
Prep. 3 boys were recently working with Mrs Prescott, a visiting artist to produce Ancient Egyptian masks and a wall display to show the discovery of Tutunkhamun’s tomb by Howard Carter.
Prep. 4 History Projects
Encouraging the boys to become independent thinkers is an important element of Prep. 4.
They choose an area to research linked to their History project on “Children of WWII”. They present a hand written project at the end of the Summer Term.
Emphasis is given to effective time management, presentation skills and the use of ICT to enhance their presentation. All of which are important skills.
The end result is always a delight to read and reflects the boys’ hard work and growing maturity. All the boys take great pride in their projects.
